Summary

The Remote Camp Operations Manager is responsible for the overallperformance management of their assigned area of responsibility which willinclude both Food Service and Housekeeping Departments. This Operations Managerwill ensure NMS standards, policies and procedures are upheld, while buildingand maintaining healthy, effective relationships with clients, customers andemployees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position provides management andoversight of an assigned group of remote camp activities.

  • Function as a primary resource for NMSFood Service and Housekeeping employees within assigned unit.

  • Will function as a backup resource forother areas as requested.

  • Responsible for delivering and trackingperformance within assigned area to meet key performance indicators.

  • Responsible for coaching and developingemployees within their organization within the framework of formal coaching andsuccession planning.

  • Responsible for advancing all elementsof NMS performance excellence strategy in the context of continuousimprovement.

  • Responsible for facilitating andsupporting a “One Team” relationship dynamic within the NMS organization.

  • Directs and coordinates the delivery ofthose NMS services as assigned.

  • Develops and implements comprehensivebusiness plans required by assigned activities.

  • Establishes and implements an organizedsystem of supervision and formal operating procedures.

  • Ensures all assigned activities complywith sound business practices as well as NMS’s internal and external businessrequirements.

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with allappropriate regulatory requirements.

  • Meets with clients/customers to maintainbusiness relationships, market products, and resolve problems and keep open allforms of communications.

  • Leads, directs and communicates withstaff to keep them informed and motivated.

  • Ensures that the responsibilities,authorities, and accountability of all assigned employees are defined andunderstood.

  • Assign tasks to workers and inspectscompleted work for conformance to standards.

  • Develops operating budget and operateswithin that budget.

  • Approves assigned area's budgetexpenditures.

  • Develops bid material and establishescost and manpower templates for catering contracts for new clients.

  • Develops menus and scope of work for bidproposals.

  • Supports an active and comprehensivesafety and CI program.

  • Consistently demonstrates remarkableskills in structuring assigned activities, management teamwork, communications,and operational efficiencies, handling of changing business needs, decisionmaking, and problem solving skills.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manages various subordinate Managers,Supervisors and assigned employees.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing,hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work;appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressingcomplaints and resolving problems.

  • This position is responsible for thesupervision of staff.

  • Other duties that are pertinent to thedepartment or unit’s success also may be assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • At least two (2) years of formal collegetraining related to the business field (candidates without any college musthave two (2) additional years of related managerial experience)

  • At least seven (7) years of relatedservice based, hospitality, food service, housekeeping, hotel or remote campmanagement experience that includes at least two (2) years of significantoverall supervisory responsibilities for a distinct businessoperation/enterprise.

  • Reliable and dependable attendance in aremote setting.

  • Must pass all pre-employment contractrequirements which may include but are not limited to: criminal background check, hair follicle drugtest, physical and fit for duty assessment and hearing test. Applicants not located near a testingfacility are responsible for paying for travel to the nearest testing facility.

  • Must be able to live in dormitory stylesettings and meet cleanliness requirements of the remote camp.

  • Must meet and adhere to all safetyguidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.

  • Contract requires employees to read,write, speak and understand English.

  • Must be able to perform each of theessential duties listed above with a professional degree of competency.

  • Requires a valid Driver’s License and anacceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible underNMS’ vehicle insurance policy

  • Proven success at managing multipletasks, projects and subordinates.

  • Proficiency in planning andorganization.

  • Demonstrated understanding of profitattainment and profit growth.

  • Strong ability to lead, build diverseteams and oversee training.

  • Personal maturity and poise; the abilityto remain composed under pressure, to make sound decisions, and to managediversity.

  • Personal drive and energy — a liking ofchallenges and opportunities to innovate.

  • Computer literacy including competencein Microsoft applications and web-based applications.

  • Working knowledge of general accountingprinciples and current NMS accounting policies.

  • Strong communication skills, in bothwritten and verbal forms.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather:Indoors/Outdoors – Frequentlyexposed to arctic conditions.

Noise level:The noise level in thework environment is moderate to loud.

Description of environment:Remote camp setting.

Physical requirements: Fit ForDuty test

  • Lift: Lift 25 lbs. from floor to knuckle x 2

  • Lift: Lift 25 lbs. from floor to waist x 2

  • Carry: Carry 25 lbs. with two hands for a minimum distance of 50 feet x 2

  • Kneel: Kneel on one knee and stand. Return to kneelon opposite knee. Repeat alternatekneeling sequence x 5 for each knee, self-paced but continuous.

  • Squat Test: Functionally squat x 5, self-paced butcontinuous.

  • Stairs: Climb up and down 12 steps x 4 for a total of48 steps using one hand to grasp a railing for safety, self-paced.

  • Stairs & Carry: Climb up and down 12 steps x 2 for a total of24 steps while carrying 25 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand to grasp arailing for safety, self-paced.

  • Allow a 30 second restperiod after climbing up and down 12 steps while carrying.

  • All tests must be performedwithin a safe target heart rate determined by the contract requirements.
