Job Summary Applies integrated technical judgment--which requires using the scientific method to recognize and formulate problems, to collect data through observation and experimentation, and to formulate and test hypotheses- to anticipate, innovate, and deliver solutions to Sandia National Laboratories missions. Roots the work in the fundamentals of science and engineering while applying a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles. Creates and applies scientific theories and laws and engineering methods used within scientific and engineering disciplines to develop or demonstrate new designs, concepts, materials, machines, products, processes, or systems. Uses physical and computational simulation, analysis, and evaluation as inherent activities of development. Plans, conducts, and executes Sandia's science and engineering programs within the spectrum of fundamental research, development, or demonstration. Researches, designs, and tests new electrical or electromagnetic components, equipment, systems, and networks using the technology of electricity, especially equipment for power generation and distribution or for motor control. Designs electrical equipment, controls, components, systems, and products. Assesses capabilities of existing electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Develops inspection and test procedures for components and systems.
Job Specifications You will be responsible for the electrical design of new or upgraded Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and engineering support of existing ATE across the neutron generator enterprise. The ATE fleet consists of S&T, development, and production testers. This job entails three main design roles:
• Design of voltage & current measurement solutions
• Design of data acquisition systems
• Troubleshooting of anomalies, as they occur, on existing testers
Primary Tasks Include:
• Design and simulation of electrical circuits and data acquisition systems.
• Oversight of electrical fabrication.
• Oversee and/or generate electrical drawings and design definition.
• Recommending and implementing best practices concerning electrical design standardization.
• Interfacing with stakeholders, tester system engineer, and other tester design engineers.
• Interfacing with system engineer to ensure requirements can be and are met.
• Validating tester stimulus requirements have a solid technical foundation.
• Providing updates to project lead.
• Design reviews with stakeholders, tester design engineers, and management.
• Developing a deep understanding of neutron generator design and performance.
• Influencing the direction of future test capability.
• Continuous improvement. Some travel required.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability Advanced technical degree or significant equivalent experience. Technical knowledge and competencies appropriate to the position. Thorough knowledge of and applied experience with scientific and engineering methods and with the discipline's standards for the ethical conduct of research. Thorough knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and executing research, design, and development projects. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with implementing Sandia policies affecting research, design, and development activities, projects, or initiatives. Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines.
Minimum Qualifications (Required) Required:
Bachelor's and Master's degree in electrical engineering or related science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline plus 2 or more years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related STEM field plus six or more years relevant experience
Experience with analog circuit design
Component or system testing related experience
Preferred Qualifications (Desired) Demonstrated track record of delivering on-time and to requirements
Experience with circuit simulation
Desire to continuously improve

Deep understanding of automated test equipment
Experience with high voltage and high current pulsed power design
