AID, a wholly owned subsidiary of Akima, LLC , provides support services to the federal and civilian agencies of the U.S Government as well as commercial organizations. Our core competencies include training and training system development, data and records management, information technology, administrative support, facilities operations and management, and base operations support services.

Responsibilities:

  • Member of a team that maintains facilities and structures at Kirtland Air Force Base. Plumbers/pipefitters assemble, install, repair, and maintain water, steam, gas or other types of pipe and pipefitting including fittings and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes, studies building plans, drawings or working drawings, and other written specifications.

  • Lays out the work for positioning of the pipe and determines work aids required, and sequence of installations.

  • Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe, and locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.

  • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools, cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading equipment, bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe bending equipment.

  • Conducts backflow prevention device testing and certification recording results and maintaining records of all testing as required for the State and other governmental documentation.

  • Assembles and installs valves, pipefittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.

  • Joins or assembles pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints, and fastens pipes with hangers, straps, or other means of securing the pipe, makes standard shop computations relating to pressures, flow and size of the pipe required, fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking and makes other standard test determining whether finished pipes meet specifications.

  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures to include, but not limited to, such items as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.

  • Repairs and maintains plumbing systems as necessary to return the system to full operational capability so that it may perform as originally designed.

  • Required to perform cleaning of the work area to include but not be limited to the removal of water, soil, debris, resulting from leaks, spills, plumbing system breaks or backups, storm/fire/smoke damage, and weather conditions, human waste/body fluids (i.e., vomit, feces, urine, and blood, etc.). All such waste shall be sealed and discarded in accordance with OSHA standards.

  • Plumber will perform other duties as assigned or required.

  • Contributes to and is supportive of a comprehensive worker safety and health and environmental management program that prevents and reduces injuries, illnesses and losses and complies with holding company safety and environmental programs and guidelines.

  • Assists with special event set-ups and tear-downs, and provides designated visitor (DV) route support as needed.

  • Regularly uses exemplary employee skills including timeliness, safe operations, quality work, and adherence to schedule completion requirements.

  • Provides timely and accurate input to Lead or Supervisor so that maintenance management work system data collection, data input, and data retrieval is current and correct.

  • Provides timely identification of parts, materials, supplies needed to the Lead.

  • Certified on the job and participate as a member of the CBRNE/HAZMAT Response Force.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.

  • Possess and maintain a plumbing license IAW New Mexico State law. In rare cases management may waive this requirement temporarily, and consider the option of allowing employee to work under the direct supervision of a technician having the appropriate licensure, as long as the employee is making progress toward obtaining their license.

  • Possess and maintain a current State of New Mexico Backflow Certification IAW New Mexico Construction Industries Licensing Act and IAW Public Law 93-523 Safe Drinking Water Act. Maintain New Mexico licensure (MS-12J and MS-14J) as defined under the appropriate New Mexico Administrative Code for fire suppression systems maintained on Kirtland AFB. In rare cases management may waive these requirements temporarily, and consider the option of allowing employee to work under the direct supervision of a technician having the appropriate licensure, as long as the employee is making progress toward obtaining their license.

  • Five years of experience in plumbing or pipefitting.

  • Experience working on a military base preferred.

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and skill in care of plumbing tools and equipment; in working safely in an industrial setting; and in working in an outdoor environment in inclement weather including rain, snow, and ice.

  • Must be flexible and able to understand and carry out directions issued in English, both verbally and written.

  • Must be able to climb ladders, kneel, crouch, lift a minimum of 50 pounds, read up close, and work standing, sitting, or in small spaces throughout the entire work day. Must be able to work in noisy environment and use appropriate PPE.
