The HSSE NANA Shareholderinternship provides NANA Shareholders the opportunity for professional trainingin various offices throughout the NMS HSSE Division. This position establishesand promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident free, and healthy workenvironment. Interns will perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge ofmethods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Mayperform duties such as gathering and organizing data to provide information fordepartmental special projects or reports; basic arithmetic computations; assistin preparing written reports; accompany professional level employees onassignments. Assignments serve to offer practical experience and broad exposureto NMS’ organizational structure. Specific activities vary by assignment.

TheNMS NANA Shareholder College Internships available will be 40 hours per week,and will be a six (6) to eight (8) week internship and is expected to start inJune. Lodging and transportation are not provided, the intern will be expectedto cover these expenses as applicable

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide basic administrative support tothe HSSE department.

  • Applies research techniques andanalytical methods to the study of administrative systems, organizationalstructures, policies and procedures.

  • Answers and makes phone calls, respondsto program related questions, and sends written material as appropriate.

  • Performs such standard office dutiessuch as producing general office written or electronic correspondence, handlingof incoming phone calls, handling of the mail, operating office equipment,filing, etc.

  • Handles confidential information in adiscreet, professional manner.

  • Assists others with overflow work orspecial projects.

  • Provide oversight and support of taskswith potential impact on the Environment.

  • Assists with consulting managers andsupervisors regarding the design and use of equipment, shops, fire-preventionand safety programs. Assists managers and supervisors in developing andimplementing local safety related systems and procedures.

  • Inspects or tours organizationfacilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, unsafebehaviors, recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated.

  • Conducts studies and job safety analysesof industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by companypersonnel and outside agencies.

  • Assist with developing, reviewing andrevising health and safety policies, procedures, programs and handbooks

  • Generate and promote ideas to improveHSSE performance.

  • Provide assistance in planning andconducting required emergency drills.

  • Shadow Safety Specialists, SafetyManagers and/or Workers Comp Manager.

  • The ability to maintain confidentialityat all times while displaying a professional disposition.

  • Ability to work utilizing professionalwritten and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of standard office equipmentsuch as a copier, fax machine and phones.

  • Demonstrated ability to complete work ina timely and accurate manner.

  • This position has no supervisoryresponsibilities.

  • Other duties that are pertinent to the departmentor unit’s success also may be assigned.


Minimum Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in college,vocational school or recently graduated from college. The ideal candidate isenrolled in A Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Sciences in any of the followingareas: industrial hygiene, safety engineering, and/or business management OR anAA degree from a technical training school in a directly safety field.

  • Must be at least 18 years’ old.

  • Must be able to provide legaldocumentation for your eligibility to work in the US.

  • Must be willing to travel to remotelocation and work for 12 hours a day.

  • This position may require travel to reddog, to include overnight stay. Lodgingto be provided at Red Dog.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors/Outdoors. Indoor: environmentallycontrolled; requires most or all work to be done inside. Outdoors: Frequentlyexposed to extreme weather conditions (wind and/or rain).

Noise level: Quietwhen in an office setting, moderate to loud at times when visiting various jobsites.

Office conditions:Standard office conditions

Description ofenvironment: Building Office Setting,slow pace of work environment and medium customer interaction. Remote campsetting.

Regularly requiredto sit, stand, etc.: Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingersto handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see,taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Physicalrequirements: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Travel: Employeemay travel up to 25% to Red Dog and/or other remote locations and may berequired to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limitedto snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs. Travel is coordinated by NMS.
