Job Summary:

Akima Facilities Operations is currently seeking a Floor Technician to support the NIH Contract in Bethesda, MD.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under the direct or indirect supervision of Floor Technician performs moderately complex (journeyman-level) floor maintenance projects as well as daily cleaning duties in accordance with standard procedures of the custodial department and with client objectives.

  • Uses cleaning equipment, including automatic floor machines, commercial vacuums, carpet shampooers and carpet extractors, wet mops, large wringers and other necessary equipment, tools, chemicals and supplies.

  • Will dry and wet mop floors, scrub and buff floors with rotor and other machines, perform stripping and waxing projects, and vacuum carpets to clean and control bacteria.

  • Moves furniture as needed to perform floor maintenance.

  • Maintains assigned equipment for cleanliness and requests repairs when needed.

  • Reports need for repairs to building equipment, furniture, and fixtures.

  • Moves floor maintenance equipment to and from storage areas to buildings.

  • Assists Floor Technicians to post advance notice flyers in areas to receive special floor maintenance.

  • Post warning tape and other signage in areas where floor maintenance is being conducted in order to control pedestrian traffic and avoid damage to floor areas during maintenance and drying periods.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • Minimum 6 years demonstrated detailed experience in advanced level, multi-discipline floor maintenance.

  • Techniques and procedures.

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Moderately complex skill in the application of custodial floor care materials and chemicals

  • Operation of floor care equipment; and in the use and maintenance of all standard custodial tools and equipment.

  • Ability to read, write, understand and speak English.

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, reach and bend for long periods of time.
