Job Description

Summary

Fabricate modular buildings including framing floors, walls, and roofs, installing sheetrock, insulation, wall sheathing, metal siding, and metal roofing. Finish carpentry including casework, cabinetry, doors, door hardware, windows, and doors. This position operates in a commercial construction environment.

*This is a rotational opportunity located at the Big Lake headquarters. Housing and transportation provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or sheathing, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.

  • Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.

  • Prepares layout.

  • Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials.

  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements.

  • Frame walls, roofs or floors using provided shop drawings.

  • Erects framework for structures and lays subflooring.

  • Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.

  • Applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.

  • Fits and installs window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates. .

  • Immediately report all Incidents/Accidents, no matter how small, to their Supervisor.

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent or ten (10) years carpentry experience will be considered.

  • Minimum three (3) years carpentry experience.

  • Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy preferred.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend over, or crawl and talk or hear. Steel toed boots required on the job.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, write routine reports and correspondence, speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
