A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FOOD SERVICE WORKER

As a Food Service Worker, you play a key role in providing outstanding service to students and staff at the Northwest Arctic Borough Schools. You help with cleaning, food prep, maintenance, stocking, and serving. Working in the school kitchen, you prepare various food products. You make sure that items are well-stocked, whether in serving lines, snack bars, or service machines. Additionally, you help to cook vegetables, entrees, and meats as needed.

When you’re not handling food, you can be found setting up tables, removing trash, sweeping floors, or cleaning the dining and storage areas. At times, you help with large cleaning projects. You find it rewarding to provide such a variety of services, which is why you’re perfect for this role!

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A FOOD SERVICE WORKER

Minimum Requirements

● Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.

Preferred Qualifications

● High school diploma or GED equivalent

● At least one (1) year of work experience or documented vocational training sufficient to demonstrate a knowledge of cleaning equipment, food preparation, and general cleaning processes or a suitability for this type of work

● Certain position(s) require a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.

Frequently required to walk and stand. Occasionally required to lift, pull and push. Rarely in cramped or confined spaces and climbing.

Physical requirements: Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
