Job Summary:

HVAC Mechanic servicing facilities and equipment on the Marine Operations Terminal Concord (MOTCO). The mechanic will be responsible for all commercial and residential HVAC units. The mechanic will be required to conduct preventative maintenance on units, troubleshoot and repair units, and program and update building control systems.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning Mechanic installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout, mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment, and installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools.

  • This mechanic also cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools, cuts and threads pipe, using machine threading or hand-threading equipment, joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant, installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit. This worker connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source; installs air and water filters in completed installation, injects small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure.

  • This mechanic observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation, tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap-and-water solution, wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands, replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units, may install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity in warehouses and small factory buildings.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • Us Citizen

  • High School diploma or equivalency.

  • Current state driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of valid insurance.

  • Minimum Three (3) years’ experience in heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration repair, including preventative maintenance operations.

  • Two (2) years’ experience in condition assessment and advanced maintenance methodologies, as documented by resume and references.

  • CFC/HCFC Refrigerant Process Certification.

  • Mechanical Journeyman License with Heating and Air Condition.

  • Ability to solve problems and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology and applicable facility/infrastructure codes and standards.

  • Familiarity with facility/infrastructure codes and standards, as applicable.

  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional & courteous manner in diverse situations.

  • Proficiency and knowledge of a variety of hand and power tools.

  • Demonstrated working ability read, write, speak and understand English.

Desire Qualification:

  • Five (5) years’ experience in heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration repair, including preventative maintenance operations.

  • Basic understanding of automatic control monitoring systems

  • Experience in troubleshooting and repair of chillers.

  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Military experience.

  • Previous experience working on a military installation.

  • Experience working on Tinker facilities.

  • Familiarity with military-specific facility/infrastructure codes and standards, as applicable.
