Akima Fire Prevention Inspector in Fort Irwin, California
Fire Prevention Specialist, works within the fire prevention office under the direction of the Fire Prevention Chief. Shall perform all fire prevention functions as assigned including, fire inspections, prevention classes, extinguisher classes, family childcare provider certification classes, engineering reviews, issue permits.
Responsibilities
Completes assigned monthly inspections.
Issues corrective action deficiencies and high hazard violations.
Inspects single story, multi-story, commercial and Industrial buildings.
Checks building plans and the installation of sprinkler systems, fire alarms systems and other fire protection devices and equipment for compliance with applicable codes.
Inspects hospitals and other care facilities.
Inspects childcare facilities and schools.
Uses a computer and related software to prepare detailed inspection reports and a variety of other reports and correspondence.
Develops and participates in related public information and education programs, makes oral presentations and gives demonstrations to a variety of groups.
Responds to public inquiries and complaints relating to fire safety matters.
Operates a motor vehicle.
Learn, interpret, enforce applicable Codes and Regulations.
Qualifications
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must pass written Internal Knowledge Exam on associated subject matter to move forward with hiring process.
Educational / Experience Equivalent:
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 1 year fire service-related experience desired.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid California Class C Driver’s License.
Must complete the following certifications within 1 year of employment:
DoD Inspector I & II.
DoD HazMat Awareness.
DoD Instructor I.
Must complete the following certifications within 2 years of employment:
DoD Inspector II.
DoD Instructor II.
Specific Knowledge:
Must know Modern Prevention techniques.
Ability to comprehend written laws & regulations.
Skills Required:
Ability to speak to groups.
Prepare written reports.
Communication Skills:
Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
Physical/Mental Abilities Required:
Must be able to use codes, regulations and technical manuals and interpret material and provide technical assistance to IAP, Government, Civilian and Contractor personnel and Military.
Ability to read blueprints and construction plans.
Must be able to act professionally in the presence of the Public and members of the Fire Department.
Ability to be punctual and meet appointments promptly.
Ability to use good judgment and common sense when performing job functions.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
Employee training as necessary, assist with public education programs and seasonal campaigns, issues and record permits.
The ability to schedule and conduct fire evacuation drills and maintains records.
The ability to draft articles and submit to the PAO for print into the newspaper and family housing letter.
Teach fire extinguisher classes and social event participation in recreation centers, etc.
