Facilities & Safety Manager
Directs all facilities management operations; establishespriorities for maintenance, repair, and leasing of facilities, providesmanagement and overview of safety policy and procedures; and directs projectplanning for KPI and NRC properties. Directs and implements operationalpolicies and procedures and actively participates in strategic planning tocarry out departmental and company-wide initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible forfacility management for NRC’s offices including the main office and the villageoffices
Oversight of allfacility maintenance projects
Managesub-contractors performing maintenance work on facilities
Negotiate andmaintain all sub-contractor contracts/agreements
Develop andimplement a routine maintenance plan for locations including (Kotzebue and thevillages)
Maintain recordson facilities including (Kotzebue and the villages)
Oversight ofcompany vehicle use and develops vehicle preventative maintenance schedule
Develop andmaintain budget
Advise managementon government regulations relating to health, environment, quality, safety, andrecommend necessary action to attain compliance
Leads and overseesthe implementation of the safety handbook and other safety related projects
Works with Villagelandlords to address health & safety issues within leased offices
Works closely withemployees, department heads and safety to assess and address safety relatedconcerns
Enforce all safetyrules in the Code of Safe Practices and ensure safe work procedures
Conduct periodicdocumented inspections to identify and correct unsafe actions and conditionsthat could cause incidents
Prepares emergencyevacuation procedures and conducts routine drills
Maintains andmonitors security equipment to keep compliant with federal, state, and localrules and regulations
Develop andmaintain budget
Manages day to dayoperations of all rental properties to include facility maintenance, trackingand processing rent payments, tenant application processing, and other dutiesdetermined by KPI President/General Manager
Assist with themanagement and delivery of expediting services
Conductsconstruction activities within federal, state and local environmental rules andregulations
Supervisoryresponsibilities are in accordance with the organization’s policies andapplicable laws. Be responsible for theoverall direction, coordination and evaluation of 1-3 employees. These responsibilities include interviewing,hiring, and training employees; planning assigning, and directing work;appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressingcomplaints and resolving problems.
Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success alsomay be assigned.

Associate degreein business or construction management is preferred.
Minimum of 5years’ experience in construction, with emphasis in project management andestimating for small to medium sized maintenance, repair and minor constructionprojects.
2-5 years ofsupervisory experience.
Proven workexperience in the area of safety with knowledge of OSHA in regards toconstruction and general safe work practices.
Proficient inreading construction plans and drawings
Experience withArctic / Cold Weather environments and remote sites desired but not mandatory
Ability to preparebudget and estimates
Applicants mustpossess excellent communicative skills and be adept in managing multipleconstruction contracts from concept to completion.
Valid Driver’slicense with an acceptable driving record to be eligible under NANA’s vehicleinsurance policy.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Occasionally exposed to moderate/harshweather conditions; requires work be done both inside and outside.
Noise level: The noise level in the workenvironment is usually moderate, but the employee may be exposed tovarying levels of noise at times when in the field or at the Red Dog Mine.
Description of environment: Incumbent must be able to work in lessthan ideal offices, facilities, or situations. In the field the employeewill be required to walk over uneven terrain, for periods up to an hour orlonger, and may be exposed to loud machinery. The overnight accommodationsin villages are limited and the employee may be required to sleep on the flooror cot in a local school and bring their own provisions for meals.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 lbs.Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel,climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carryweight/lift.
Travel: Up to 25% of the time.Employee may travel to remote areas, such asthe Red Dog Mine or in the NANA Region and may be required to use alternativemodes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats,small airplanes and ATVs.
The position requires reading, detailed work, problem solving,interactions with other companies including other NANA companies, reasoning,math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analyticalreasoning, will require the employee in the position to manage multipleconcurrent tasks, and handle constant interruptions.
