Job Introduction Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking

individuals who can contribute to national security within the science,

technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at

vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department

of Energy. AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of

their customers mission. Available employment opportunities may range from

administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of

age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required

physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance

requirements from the Department of Energy.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier

government contractor charged with employing highly-motivated and

well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore

National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by AIS, the employee will

take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the

research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management

functions are provided by AIS.

The Center for Micro & Nanotechnology (CMNT) in the Materials

Engineering Division (MED) has an opening for technicians to provide advanced

support for electromechanical equipment maintenance and facility

operations. Under minimal supervision,

the technician will be involved in the setup, operation and repair of equipment

in support of R&D programs at the CMNT. Depending on experience level, the

candidate will be involved in the repair, maintenance, and installation and

decommissioning of Laboratory equipment. Primary interaction and direction will

be with the operations manager and the lead technician. The candidate will need

a positive, can-do attitude and have a desire to learn new skills and

multitask. Additionally, the candidate

must be able to effectively interact with professional staff and outside

subcontractors/vendors on a regular basis.

CMNT’s world class R&D talent and unique fabrication facilities

have enabled highly innovative and custom solutions to technology needs,

bringing together researchers and technologies from diverse disciplines such as

engineering, chemistry, biology, physics and material science. These

multi-disciplinary collaborations have led to novel capabilities in highly

integrated bio-microsystems, photonic microsystems, micro-electromechanical

systems (MEMS) for advanced sensing and actuation, radiation sources/detection,

bio and chemical detection and scalable power systems.

This position may require the successful candidate have the

flexibility to work overtime, shift and or weekends to accomplish goals. The

successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules

to pursue work assignments.

Job Description

Essential Duties

  • Provide electrical or mechanical support for setup, installation, repair and maintenance of electro/mechanical laboratory equipment and control systems

  • Identify complex problems and suggest solutions

  • Record data and present to CMNT Operations Supervisor or Technical Lead for analysis

  • Interact with management, engineers, and technicians and outside vendors on a regular basis

  • Perform work in both a clean room and in dry lab environments

  • Assure all assignments are performed in accordance with Environmental, Safety, and Health policies and procedures

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • AA/AS degree in either electronic or mechanical technology or a minimum of 4 years combination of education and experience

  • Experience with mechanical hardware and tools

  • Experience with installing, repair and maintenance of electro/mechanical equipment and control systems

  • Experience with TIG welding

  • Knowledge of plumbing utilities

  • Knowledge of various vacuum pumps and thermal systems

  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics or mechanical drawings

  • Experience with personal computers, database, and spreadsheets

  • Must be able to use a respirator, lift and push 50 pounds, use portable ladders

  • Demonstrated ability to think of creative or innovative solutions for a variety of technical problems or improvements

  • Demonstrated effective communication skills necessary to convey highly detailed procedures and verbally discuss technical information with personnel

-Demonstrated ability to work on a variety of concurrent activities

-Demonstrated ability to function effectively either in a solitary or team environment,and be self-motivated

  • Detail oriented, since many job duties require intricate and precise technical work

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Experience with micro-controlled PLC’s

  • Design and fabrication of parts using CAD software

  • Experience with gas systems

-Forklift/crane experience

  • Experience with Class 100 Cleanroom protocols

Special Requirements

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level).
