Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customers mission. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly-motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

The Projects Control Group within the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) has two openings for Project Controls Analyst with a strong emphasis in scheduling and Earned Value Management (EVM).

The successful candidates will be responsible for assisting and contributing to the development of future and current project controls scope, schedules, work processes, tools, and procedures included in the project controls system. The successful candidates will initially support various projects primarily in the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) and Engineering Directorates, and potentially other various other programs and Directorates at LLNL.

This position may require the flexibility to work overtime, shift and or weekends to accomplish goals. The successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules to pursue work assignments

Job Description

Essential Duties

  • Develop schedules and earned value metric data; contribute to developing and maintaining project controls system architecture and components including scope, work processes, tools, and procedures.

  • Ensure data integrity and assess project controls data to verify compliance with processes and procedures.

  • Develop and monitor earned value performance data; develop other data analysis techniques as necessary, including variance analysis, recovery, or corrective action plans, risk vetting, reporting, and estimate at completion analysis.

  • Identify cost trends and schedule impacts, use statistical tools to analyze metrics, and report cost, schedule, risk, and earned value information at formal meetings such as Management Reviews, Integrated Baseline Reviews, Design Reviews, and Earned Value Surveillance Reviews.

  • Prepare and occasionally present cost/schedule/earned value information to internal organizations.

  • Responsible for integration of project activities and total work scope for identification and maintenance of project critical path including developing and maintaining baseline change control management processes and logs.

  • Responsible for the effective execution of the project controls system. Perform statistical analysis, schedule monitoring, and computer operations, and coordinate comparisons of historical data, scope, quantities, and cost data between projects.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Implement advanced earned value management systems, assist and mentor other project controllers to facilitate growth, foster adoption and broaden implementation and use in the Project Controls discipline.

  • Provide on-the-job training/mentoring for project controls processes and practices.

  • Prepare accurate and timely project status reports, management reports, project documentation and other business process documentation as necessary and present to internal and external organizations .

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant functional discipline or related field, or equivalent combination of education, related experience, and training in project controls.

  • Experience in project management/project controls, such as Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and project scope, budget, cost estimating, planning, and schedules.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience using various project control operating systems (e.g., Primavera (P6), Cobra, MS Project) and knowledge of /experience using Microsoft Office tools .

  • Experience performing statistical analysis, schedule monitoring and operations to disseminate, create, and present highly detailed and complex financial information to diverse audiences.

  • Experience in independently and successfully clarifying issues, analyzing concerns, and resolving highly complex problems of an unusual nature, making and implementing sound decisions.

  • Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication and presentation skills to effectively disseminate, create, and present highly detailed and complex financial information to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to tactfully and effectively establish and maintain highly productive working relationships with a broad cross-section of management, technical, scientific, and administrative personnel

  • At least 7 years of experience working in project controls.

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of, and experience using various project control operating systems (e.g., Primavera (P6), Cobra, MS Project) and advanced knowledge of /experience using Microsoft Office tools .

-Experience directing project controls functions, including cost estimating, cost control, and cost analysis; experience and demonstrated skill directing planning and scheduling functions, including schedule development, control and analysis.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Project Management Professional and/or Earned Value Professional, and Six Sigma certifications.

  • Experience with LLNL and DOE/NNSA financial policies and procedures.

  • Master’s Degree in relevant functional discipline

Special Requirements
