Job Description

Summary

Constructs, installs, and maintains heavy machinery and equipment in an industrial environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as comply with safety policies and procedures (MSHA and Red Dog EMS training) and ensure daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards.

  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advise coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required.

  • Install, maintain, dismantle and overhaul machinery, such as heavy mechanical equipment and conveyor systems.

  • Perform routine maintenance on port conveyor belts.

  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and find irregularities and malfunctions; install and troubleshoot equipment.

  • Complete routine tasks such as lubrication of machinery, seal replacement, and preventative maintenance.

  • Operate forklift, boom truck (optional), and other port equipment when required.

  • Provide building and facility repair such as plumbing, carpentry, troubleshooting, and replace and repair.

  • Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and kept in a clean and orderly condition.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent or ten (10) years Millwright experience will be considered.

  • Minimum one (1) years directly related experience in the construction industry required.

  • Must be able to work cooperatively with others.

  • Must have the ability to manage time independently with limited supervision.

  • Must possess good communication skills.

  • Must be committed to safety.

  • Must have the ability to train apprentices.

  • Must be able to perform labor intensive work when required

  • Must be able to work day or night shifts as required

  • Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy preferred.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and extreme cold. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Steel toed boots are required on the job.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally assist with lifting and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Travel may require an employee or contractor to pass a TSA security checkpoint. If the employee or contractor does not have valid identification, they will not be able to travel until valid identification is obtained and verified. Competencies

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, write routine reports and correspondence, speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situation.
