Field engineer to work in the shipboard communications area troubleshooting, installing, designing and training of Shipboard Air Traffic Control Communications System (SATCC) systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist planning yards and Alteration Installation Teams with planning for and accomplishment of SATCC initial installations and upgrades.

  • Provide training to ships force SATCC technicians and develop troubleshooting aids to assist them with system maintenance during underway periods.

  • Provide technical assistance to ships force SATCC personnel on all aspects of the SATCC system and its interfaces with other ships systems.

  • Provide C5RA/TSRA/INSURV support on the SATCC System to NSSA and SWRMC.

  • Liaison with SATCC equipment manufacturer to develop improvements to the SATCC system.

  • Provide engineering support to SPAWAR Systems Center, shipyards, and Alteration Installation Teams to develop Ship Installation Drawings for SATCC initial installations and upgrades.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

Minimum of a high school diploma and three years’ experience as an electronic technician or equivalent military job rating. Must have fundamental computer skills (Windows, MS Office). A SECRET security clearance is a requirement of this position.

Desired Qualifications :

  • Bachelors Degree or Prior Navy/shipboard experience of 4 years.

  • Prior experience in Air Traffic Control operations and communications

  • Ability to communicate with naval personnel effectively and provide system training.

  • Prior experience with shipboard installations processes and controls.

  • Ability to write test plans, SOVT’s and white papers effectively.

  • Ability to read schematics, install, repair, and maintain electronic systems or equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctioning electronic equipment and systems, and determine the level and method of repair.

  • Ability to use hand tools and precision measuring equipment.

  • Skill in using diagnostic and testing equipment.

  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, illustration, specification, diagrams, and schematics to make repairs and modifications

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Position may require intermittent mandatory overtime and/or a work schedule outside normal working hours. Position may include travel onboard ship and overseas.
